We expected a manor house estate but we're presented with a modern redbrick hotel, albeit adjacent to a manor house. We booked a standard double. These turn out to be tiny rooms, barely bigger than a standard double bed. No room to move or sit. The cupboard wasn't really big enough to hang more than out coats. It would be fine for a solo business traveller but not for a relaxing break. On the plus side, room was clean and breakfast was good.

Staff were very helpful and found a new room for them on the ground floor when they realised my mother in law struggled with stairs. The room was very comfortable and clean. This is a great hotel in a beautiful location, the setting is really lovely, very peaceful and rural, stunning surroundings and historic buildings. Excellent food too Unfortunately the pool was out of action during our stay. Other than that all very good.
