"I’ve never stayed in the newer annexes or offerings at the colonial, only once in the main building.
Firstly, the landscaped grounds and front garden bordering the outdoor patio are spectacular, and the setting is delightful for food and drinks.
But make no mistake, when you book a room in the main house, you’re longing for your grandma’s memory.
First off, there are NO blackout curtains - bring your blinders. I was there on a chilly Memorial Day weekend on the top floor. The heating system was sporadic at best and I awoke to a cool room and dressed quickly. The shower was hot but the pressure not so great and they need better shower curtains. A desk light or standing lamp would help. TV worked fine. And be prepared to carry your luggage up those 2 flights or wait for help. Also, it’s time to replace those old carpets, gang!
Does the place have charm? You betcha! And all those nooks and crannies add to the 18th C panache. It just needs sprucing up to be really comfortable!"
