"Review of two night stay at Hotel 52, Stanley from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th May 2026 Check-in was online only which required a smartphone and a reliable Wi-Fi signal, there are no reception staff on site during the normal working day. The outer door was automatic so anyone could walk in. After collecting our key from a key safe we went to find our room. There was a security toggle with the key to open inner doors of the hotel but none of the security locks functioned so anyone could access all areas of the hotel. This is not safe. The only lockable door was the bedroom door. With no staff on site this is a disgraceful lack of security. We had booked a double room with en suite facilities. The room appeared to be set up for single occupancy. The bed was a ¾ size double bed with a single mattress protector. There was only one chair which was very stained, one bedside table and one bedside light. The bathroom was on a lower level and had three steep steps down with handrails either side. Both handrails were almost completely pulled from the wall and would have offered no support to a person who stumbled on the steps. There was no shaver socket in the bathroom and the hot water feed to the wash-hand basin was barely tepid. The shower was warm enough. Two bath towels were supplied and two mugs for tea/coffee. "Had a lovely stay in this lovely old building. I only dealt with one member of staff, but she was very nice and friendly and made us feel welcome. Breakfast is also very nice. Heating wasn’t working but we were supplied with a portable heater to make the room nice and cozy. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay "

"Check in was quick and easy. Staff were helpful and polite, even moved me from a room in the inn to an annexe room so I could be away from noise from bar. Also had a very good breakfast which is extra but excellent value for money. Definitely recommend it hotel and breakfast."

"was able to park just in front of stable room work is in progress at the property so didnt look its best on the outside,inside was fab we had everything we needed plus extras like fridge ,toaster,microwave plenty of plates mugs dishes good drinks making equipment,single beds were comfy and spotless,tv was a bit confusing but we managed in the end,we had a lot of noise on the 2 nd evening and early morning could have been the workmen🙄 the royal oak pub is extremely welcoming drinks and meals very good,all in all good value for money our dog was made really welcome i would recommend as a comfortable budget friendly stopover to visit a lovely part of the country a friendly welcome and a relaxed atmosphere,"

"The room was decorated very nicely, but the door for room 8 did not fit the frame very well and light came in all around the door and along the bottom. Also this was not a fire door, which my wife was very concerned about. As we did not check in until after 10pm, the night manager did offer us a different room, but stated all the doors were the same. She was also concerned as the lock did not work. When I booked the room on the confirmation email it did say about some noise, but our room was directly adjacent to the fans for the kitchens and these were running all night. I had a cooked breakfast which was average, my wife had croissants and a fruit salad with yoghurt. The croissants were very nice and there was plenty of jam, but the fruit salad contained several pieces of fruit that were past their best."
