"I recently stayed at the Royal Kona Resort in Kona, Hawaii. The location and amenities definitely deserve a 5-star rating. The oceanfront views are absolutely beautiful, the saltwater lagoon and pool area are great, and the property has that classic Hawaiian resort feel. Being able to walk right into town for restaurants and shops is also a huge plus. Unfortunately, the cleanliness and service did not match the amazing setting. "Beautiful resort, great room and service but be prepared to walk a lot. The tram system doesn’t work that well by the end of our stay we didn’t even bother checking the schedule we just walked and beat the team most of the time. Also the cost to park is outrageous. "This is a very nice lodge with a great history. The room was spacious and we really enjoyed the hot tub and the nature trail. My only complaint is with the people in the room beneath us as we heard them talking well past the quiet hour of 10:00 pm. As the inn has no night manager, I was required to deal with it myself by talking to them directly. Not sure if the insulation between the rooms is adequate. We did hear other neighbors as well but they respected the quiet hours. "

"The staff was concerned with us getting there before 8pm. We hurried to get there and did not stop for dinner. We arrived to check in at 5pm and the staff seemed eager to show us our rental and get out of there (we were the last and maybe only ones to check in that day). "1. The road into the property was dreadful. 2. To access the restroom/shower, you had to go OUTSIDE to another building; not good, especially in the middle of the night! Apart from that, I have NEVER stayed at a place where the bathroom was in a different building. I wouldn't even think to ask where the restroom is located; it should be a given! 3. "Everything was fantastic! The only odd thing is that there wasn’t a headboard on the bed. The staff was very kind! If you look at the window latch on the courtyard side of the room, it might say “made in occupied Japan” on the knob, which if you know your history, it should give you a solid idea on the age of the hotel. But the place is in great shape, seems freshly remodeled, and really is quite a treasure. The song of the night birds is mesmerizing! One word of caution for late arrivals...
