"We booked through Expedia and booked an “Oceanfront” room. When we arrived we got checked and noticed our room was partial ocean view and located on the 2nd floor right above the bar and by the pool (where every night we heard screaming kids and people at the bar at 3am. We complained but nothing was done.). We pleaded that we came from Arizona and asked to be moved to a different room preferably upper level and Oceanfront which we thought we had purchased. They told us that it was the only room...

"The location and view are the highlights of the property. Those are 5 stars. The state of the property is quite worn: contractor-grade bathroom door, rough towels, questionable ac unit. Service was lacking: I called down for extra towels, told I’d get some, then hours later, nothing. I ran into a housekeeping staff on the floor as I was going to go in person to get some, who said he never got the message. The breakfast, while an extraordinary view, was very, very poor. "We were so surprised when we rolled up on this property. It was well maintained & beautifully landscaped. The cottage was decorated with a colorful flair. The bathroom was roomy & had a big shower. The porch looked out over the property facing the ocean & great sunrises. We stayed 4 nights & were genuinely sad to leave. After 10 days traveling, this was the perfect place to relax"

"Best hotel that I’ve ever been"

"Beautiful resort but still needs a lot of maintenance. The most frustrating part was paying the resort fee and parking fee, but watching many local residents use the facilities freely. The family pool was overcrowded with residents, not guests. The pools were supposed to close at 10PM, but on our evening walks we saw a lot of inappropriate behavior in the pools. Wondering how the facility is monitored, because it didn’t seem like there was any rule enforcement."

"Staff was great. First room smelled of mold and mildew. Rotting presswood by mini fridge. Staff moved us to much nicer room. Pool and hot tub were dirty and very strong chlorine smell. Burning nose strong. Breakfast was very poor. Eggs come with soybean oil type cheese. If they just did scrambled eggs it would be so much better. It’s very manufactured eggs. Pancake machine gave raw pancakes. Coffee is the cheapest possible. Location is walkable to shops and harbor. Again, Staff was great....

"Fantastic historic older property, very well maintained. Great layout and superb location. Host was super nice. Comfy bed and linens. Plenty of excellent amenities. This is our new go-to when visiting Hilo. Highly recommend!"

"We took the ocean view room, waking up to the views and natural white noise through the night gave us the much needed disconnect from our busy lives. The staff were friendly and breakfast was great (lots of fruits and homemade stuff). Would definitely recommend."

"The lokahi lodge is a very comfortable stay. It’s like staying in a cabin. Very quiet location right next to volcano national park. The room was clean, spacious, and nice. Good stay for anyone wanting to visit the park"

"We stayed in a clean 1 bedroom suite with an amazing sea view! The rooms cooled down once the windows and doors were open and the fans were blowing. Keep in mind that the check-in process isn't typical. If you want A/C for your room or have any needs for on-site staff, you must check-in before the office closes at 5pm. (If you arrive after 5, you will get your room key using a lock box and won't have the option for A/C if that is important to you.) The property is well maintained and a few...

"Beware that if you request an ocean view room, you are likely going to get a large view of the lobby roof top and and tiny view of the ocean to the side. They were kind of sneaky about this. Some people are okay with a view of the roof top but if you are turned off by looking out and seeing a black flat surface for your ocean view. you really need to request an ocean view. pool was good as well as the restaurant"
