"Bedrooms and bathrooms are a bit tired and in need of decoration but on the whole it didn’t spoil our stay, beds were clean and comfortable. Plenty of selection at breakfast. Would stay again."

"The staff were lovely, breakfast was excellent, the restaurant didn't open till 6pm, so as we were going out we ordered bar food, which was ok, tasty but nothing special, convenient for us though.again the staff were lovely, We asked to change rooms because of a small problem,it was done without any fuss. It is slowly being renovated and just had lovely New windows in the lounge, some of the rooms need updating and the secret balcony could do with abit of TLC,, but it's a beautiful old building,...

"Toilet seat was hanging off. Had to wait to get checked in, sea gulls kept us awake all night. Not an aera I recommend."

"We stayed over for the concert at the open air. The hotel was clean and well maintained- all the staff were polite and friendly. Our room was clean. The bar was lovely and the restaurant and breakfast was perfect. The en-suite was very small but clean. The only thing that would have meant full star rating would have been a better parking arrangement, - a quality mattress and blackout curtains. That being said we would definitely stay here again."

"We stopped going to the Clifton 20 odd years ago and the old and only lift was never working and it was a long old walk up and down the stairs. The same old lift has never been updated and is as much a nightmare today as it was years ago. If the internal gate isnt closed properly it does not move - absolute nightmare. This is a shame as the old place has under gone a lot of investment in the rooms which have improved greatly. Had a couple of bar meals and one was ok but the so called chicken...

"What a traveler needs more than anything is a clean accommodations, good shower, a super bed and a solid location.Loved all 4. A short walk to anywhere and BTW, the 199 steps to the top of the town were no big deal. Whitby is awesome!"

"A wonderful experience at St Hildas, wonderful friendly staff and check in easy. Fabulous room we loved it and can't wait to return. Excellent choices for breakfast, all good quality products available. A beautiful base, we loved it all. "

"No breakfast available as advertised place was shut No internet No sports on tv in cabin Beach cabin is in the middle of a housing estate ? No view whatsoever No towels supplied on a &200 a night cabin ? Paid for four nights I left after one night ?? There is a shop but it shuts at 18-00 ?? They think this place is up market ? Long way to go ."

"We love staying at this hotel. The staff are really helpful nothing is too much trouble. The hotel also has some really thoughtful touches like providing rain ponchos for guests heading to shows at the outdoor open air theatre. When we came back from the show we were abit cold so we loved that we could grab a complimentary hot chocolate from the lounge. They are also showing the World Cup at the hotel Cinema. Touches like this make it a really special place to stay. Can’t wait to visit again!"

"We had no running hot water other than the electric shower. No wardrobe just hangers on hooks. TV was the size of an iPad. Bottom bed sheet too small and forever coming off. Needs to be clearer when it states breakfast included but it is only cereal. Outside seating area not suitable as soiled with seagulls droppings"

"Very dirty and unpleasant atmosphere. Everything broken . It is like hell. Would not recommend to anyone. Nothing is useful. This place should be locked and banned for use ."

"For the cost of the room I expected more modern decor and room facilities. Very basic bath/shower combo, basic tea making facilities and dated decor/room furniture. The view from the room was fantastic but the view alone shouldn’t warrant such high prices."

"The only problem was the shower hose had a rip and had gaffer tape on top but still leaked water everywhere and we had to take shower head off and use the ripped hose to have a clean while holding it"
