If combining with Statue of Liberty then ignore the river taxis who try and convince you go just to the Statue of Liberty. Allow half an hour to get tickets and through security (similar to airport). Prepare yourself for a moving experience. Watch the 30mins film in one of two theatres before exploring the museum exbibits.
There is an awful lot to see, so allow at least a whole afternoon
