"The place itself was lovely a little dated in the bedrooms but so clean, short walk to the shambles, food at the hotel was fantastic excellent price, can recommend the Eggs Benedict for breakfast, outside lovely seating area right by the river and last but not least staff are so welcoming very attentive 5 star service will be going back again "

"Overall good, however we didn't like the policy where GBP 30 deposit was collected from us at the time of check in. We had prepaid for the room and nowhere in the app was this mentioned. If Hotels start this practice I think it will leave a bad impression overall. If the hotel is worried about something, charging all customers 30 GBP at checkin as a contingency is not the answer. They need to look at what other policies or other measures that can be taken instead of inconveniencing all...

"From my room's window I had the most beautiful of York Minster! The train station is a short, flat walk away. York Minster is less than 5 mins away and The Shambles was less than 10 mins. The room was quite comfortable, the breakfast was very hearty. I will be staying here again!!"

"Very pleased with our visit to Ascot House. The owner was very friendly and informative. The room was lovely,the bed and bedding excellent and the bathroom was superb. The breakfast each day was very tasty and the food cooked to order. The location was also excellent. Just over 10 minutes walk into York and a bus stop just down the road. Car park at Ascot House available but sometimes full. However parking allowed on side road so no problem. "
