"A very pleasant surprise as a solo guest. Needed an overnight stay for an event in Abergavenny, went with no expectations, just needed a comfortable, clean place and that's what I got. Yes the place needs a bit of tidying up, decorating, updating of furniture but that doesn't bother me as long as everything works for it's purpose which it did. "This hotel is a historic building that is showing a few signs of age on the outside. There are the inevitable multiple changes in floor level through the building. We had a small ground floor room so avoided the steep stairs. The shower was very small. The room was quiet, looking out onto the carpark. Parking was free. "Thoughtful, friendly receptionists, cheerful serving staff, room had a beautiful view and was clean. No complaints other than old cobwebs in the swimming pool windows and pool was crowded and noisy due to kids swimming lessons, which cut the useable area of pool to half"

However the Expedia booking did not state that ,nor did the information sent to the Porters Lodge. The charge was though only £5 pp."

I had a room on the ground floor which was close to the gym as well as the entrance. The room was pretty standard but what was required for me. I got shown to the gym which had new equipment and had plenty to choose from. I was then told it was an extra £5 to use it which would have been nice to know as part of booking the stay.
