"We stayed at the Portola Hotel for two nights during the week as a mini-vacation to visit the aquarium and spend some time by the Ocean. I had stayed at the hotel years ago and had fond memories of my experience, so I didn’t mind paying almost $300/night, I was expecting a nice hotel. "Our room was nice and the space was clean. While it felt a bit dated, it was still a great place to stay. Parking was easy at the hotel and the continental breakfast was typical. The woman who checked us in offered us a log for the fireplace, which was a nice touch. Also she gave some great recommendations for local dinner/drinks."

"Our 5-day stay at the Kimpton Mirador was...fine. The biggest upside was that it allows for dogs of any size, so we weren't restricted by our 70lb dog. Overall, the building is very nice - well kept, lovely staff, nice room, etc. It's in a great location - close to the water as well as to the main street, and a 20ish minute walk from downtown Monterey. "The staff was very welcoming with local information regarding restaurants and sight seeing opportunities. The pool was warmed to 78 degrees and Jacuzzi was clean and perfect to unwind for the long walks since the hotel is in a perfect spot to enjoy the sights! It’s centrally located to shopping and restaurants. We walked to the wharf and old adobe structures throughout. Great choice for a reasonable price and location!"

Staff member on duty when we were there could use a little reminder that friendliness goes a long way. Lovely property but could use a little attention to detail- blinds are worn, lots of dings and marks on the walls, generally looks overly lived in. No need for a big remodel or redecoration, just attention to the small things that detract from the overall...

"The room was clean, however most of the lights did not work. In 1 of 2 rooms I rented they provided a small lantern and in that same room the a/c did not work only the fan portion. After the shower the room would get incredibly stuffy and even smelled musty. Check in was quick as well as check out. There was enough parking for the amount of rooms that are offered at this hotel."
