I was also happy to find a kettle with coffee and tea, which made for a fresh and pleasant morning. The only downside was that there was no hand soap or shampoo provided, which would have made the stay more comfortable. "I needed an overnight stay en route to scotland . Cartref was easy to get to from M6 and felt clean and cosy. Traffic was a little noisy ( I had to open window due to heatwave) but the host thoughtfully supplied earplugs as well as various other "extras " for myself and the dog. Shared bathroom was clean and easily accessible. I would recommend Cartref if visiting Carlisle or just passing through and i would certainly consider staying here again if in the area."

"This hotel is old and tired. When I arrived, I was informed that the elevator was out for four weeks minimum. Since I had three bags and a pram plus limited mobility, I was very upset. To the staff's credit, they took me up in the service elevator but I still had to walk up and down many stairs everytime I left my room. This hotel is horribly noisy either from the bar next door or the roof beer garden across the alley and the glass bin filling and emptying is so loud!!! The carpet is torn and...
