"I am wary of doing chain hotels but chose to stay here due to the location and the fact it boasted a "fitness facility". The location was convenient as it was sited at a Welcome Break services. I was able to park close to the entrance. I was warmly greeted but on checking in found out that there was a separate £5 charge for overnight parking which was not disclosed at the outset of booking the accommodation. "With additional charges I should have booked my first choice, I saw this hotel on offer and took it. I paid extra for a dog but didn't get the doggy bag mentioned on site. Staff were very dog friendly hotel isn't really. Nowhere to walk the dog really just a carpark and small courtyard. The court yard isn't really a suitable place to go to the toilet and the carpark was very hot in 30°+ also I had to get someone to get me breakfast as dogs aren't allowed in the area, so I couldn't see what was...

"Enjoyable two night stay. Very warm, which made the pool a godsend. Breakfast was a bit cramped and bland, if I was being picky. Lovely room, great bed and good size walk-in shower. Overall, a very definite thumbs up."

The garden was not open in the evening to enjoy warm weather but there was a pub with outdoor space. We had good time in Oxford. The best part was the staff and its location for us."

"Stayed here for two nights. The room was clean and spacious. Good facilities in room but it was incredibly hot during our visit so a fridge in room would have improved our stay as no air conditioning but not many days in England you would need it. Breakfast was lovely, small but everything you could want. Evening menu was a bit limited and I probably would go somewhere else for an evening meal. The staff were all excellent, friendly and helpful."

"The Royal Oak is outstanding in every respect. If you're staying a night, its facilities are unusually generous and extensive; if you're eating, the menu and the food are great; and if you just want a drink, there's a bar area and plenty of seating outside. The staff are lovely. Plus there's plenty of local information, books, games and events, not to mention a farm shop. If you can tear yourself away, visit Wayland's Smithy a couple of miles away along the Ridgeway."
