Beautiful historical city with look of Portugal with white buildings, tile roofs and sidewalks made of marble stones. Surrounding countryside looks like Hawaii -- lush, breezy, volcanoes, hot springs etc.

Ponta Delgada is a large city. It has a historic area as well as restaurants, shopping, and more. It was a good location for seeing the rest of the island.

It was over the Christmas break so low season but felt extremely safe. Everyone one was polite and we walked everywhere until the wee hours. Lots of nice restaurants and bars.

Rent a car and plan your daily itinerary. We were there for two weeks but ten days would have been perfect. The island is easy to drive.
