"Honestly, you can’t really call this a hotel - it’s more of a motel. For the price they charge, you could get a much nicer and more comfortable place to stay in Vancouver instead. The rooms are very outdated, and the cleanliness could definitely have been better. Even basic things you would expect from any standard hotel, like ear plugs, were unavailable, and the front desk staff rolled their eyes when asked simple questions. Overall, the customer service and experience were disappointing....

"Rooms have been refreshed. Free parking underground was great. Area can be a bit sketchy but we just used as a home base and didn’t walk around this area. Hallways and doors and bathrooms could use fresh paint and a refresh."

"Hecklers bar up the road was the best find. The stay was as expected for outside doors and the age. New owner was awesome and very accommodating. I would stay again."

"Clean, spaceous , nicely decorated antique rooms. Great location to all inner harbour restaurants, museum, attractions. Good view of the harbour from the room's private balcony. Breakfast was absolutely amazing with many choices. Tea menu alone was extraordinary . All staff were very polite and very helpful. Great place to stay."

"James Bay is a wonderful place to stay in downtown Victoria. You wouldn’t know you were in a bustling city because it is so quiet. There’s an occasional clap clap of a passing horse drawn carriage which adds to its charm. The pub below offers delicious meals at a reasonable price. The staff at the hotel are so friendly and helpful (Roy, Hede, thank you!!). The artwork, carpet, furniture, etc add to the charming ambiance. Best of all, it’s in walking distance of the legislature building, various...
