"We had a lovely room on the 3rd floor but it was very hot as a result of the recent high temperatures. This made sleep difficult until the early hours of the morning when the weather cooled. All the staff we encountered were great - very helpful, pleasant and cheerful. Breakfast was standard but absolutely no complaints. It is a very old property but some way of keeping the upper rooms cooler in high summer temperatures would be a major improvement.. perhaps by increasing the roof insulation"

"The location is excellent. The hotel is generally nice but if you look closely is a bit grubby in places -skirtings, behind the doors and daily room service. The shower was over a bath and it was very deep which made it difficult to get in and out. There was an aircon unit which was so noisy it couldn't be used. Breakfast was good and overall we had a good stay."

"We had a lovely weekend stay at this hotel, which is only a 10 minute walk from the city centre and close to York’s many attractions.
Our air conditioned room was very clean, with a comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities, dressing table, hairdryer, iron, tv and plenty of power sockets. The en-suite had a spacious walk-in shower and toiletries were included.
We used the hotel restaurant in the evenings and our meals were both well presented and delicious. The hotel bar had a good...

"The staff were lovely very helpful
Room service was very good food was lovely
But we were next to a fire door and it keeps on banging every time people walk through and very squeaky floor boads
It was very clean but dated"

"Really great hotel with so much attention to detail. Record players in the room and a huge selection of records is a really nice touch. The Radio was on when we arrived to our room and the Pantry is generous & a really unique touch. Canadian lady on the Bar was knowledgeable & super friendly (Pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the extensive bar menu was priced). Just really really cool & great location."

"The staff at Ascot House were great. The breakfasts are pretty much set with some exceptions if you don't like something, the chef tries to accommodate when it's possible which is a great thing to be able to offer. The owner June does a great job with keeping Ascot House friendly and accessible to all people. We had a lovely time staying here and visiting York."

"A good location with car parking at the back. Comfy beds, although our room was a bit small. If we had have been staying more than one night we would have wanted a bigger room. The food for breakfast and dinner was of good quality and the staff were very friendly. A large beer garden at the rear and a large screen to watch the football on."
