"Spa experience was really nice. The vip pool was nice and quiet. Food was ok, a little more variety would be nice at the buffet. The resteraunts were very good. The staff was incredible."

"The staff were very attentive. The buffet always had something I liked. The room was clean and the room wifi was great. My wife and I have traveled to Mexico many times, several to the Barcelo. The Barcelo has always been hands down the best resort we have stayed at. "

"Beautiful Resort!!! Buffets indoor and open air buffets by the beach were delicious and fresh. Breakfast had fresh squeezed orange juice, Champagne 🍾, made to order juice smoothies, made to order eggs and omlettes, fresh fruit, yogurt, and yogurt smoothies drinks. Specialty Restaurants were very good. Beach was nice. If you go down by the Palace the water was clear blue when we were there 4/25/26 - 5/2/26. You didn't even need snorkeling equipment and you could see turtles come up for air. Very nice resort, only lacking the wildlife such as Monkeys, Coati's, ect as we seen on other resorts. I rate this resort 5 stars 🌟 for a Resort in Mexico. We stayed in the Barcello Caribe. Even there resort gift shops were cheaper on items then in at Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. They do have an outdoor Mexican shopping center that was never busy when I saw, but they were pricee gouging with their absurd prices. One tube of Suntan lotion was $50 US as compared to price in gift shop at $38 US. In Playa Del Carmen, 5th Avenue I found it for $22 US dollars. So take enough suntan lotion, a med bag of things for common illnesses, and cosmetics you need before going. They do have body was, shampoo, and conditioner that was fine to use. So do your research!"

"Everything was good except for 2 things : 1) we went the last week of April and the seaweed at the beach was so much 2) a dinner reservation system was horrible, we arrived on a Sunday and immediately went to guest services to book our dinners for the week. The problem is nearly all of them were booked up for the week already even though this is during off-season, which was really surprising. We were able to get in at three of the restaurants during the weekday we had but the earliest reservations were at 9:30 PM. It’s ridiculous that you cannot book dinner reservations before your arrival. The pools were amazing though! "

"The shoreline was very rocky, which made entering the water difficult. There was also a lot of seaweed, but the hotel staff diligently cleared it away, making our morning swims much more pleasant. The food was fresh and delicious, with a wide selection of fruits and vegetables. The rooms were clean, and the bed linen was fresh and clean as well. We had a wonderful time staying at the resort with our family."

"I had a terrible experience with Expedia and Hard Rock Hotel Cancun. I accidentally booked the wrong Hard Rock property, then realized my group was at a different location and booked the correct one. This left me with two reservations for the same night. Within minutes, I contacted Expedia to cancel the incorrect booking and request a refund. After multiple follow-ups, I was told the hotel did not respond, and I was stuck paying nearly $600 for a reservation I booked by mistake. Expedia said there was nothing they could do because the hotel wasn’t cooperating. This is extremely frustrating. I acted immediately to fix an honest mistake, yet neither Expedia nor the hotel helped. I feel completely let down and will think twice before booking through Expedia again."

"Catalonia Riviera Maya can be a good option if you’re visiting Quintana Roo on a budget, but there are a few things to keep in mind before booking. First, there isn’t a traditional beach—just a small bay where you can swim. It’s still enjoyable, but it may not meet expectations if you’re looking for long sandy stretches. Restaurant reservations are quite limited. For example, during our 9-night stay, we were only able to book 4 dinners. You can try going to the restaurants around 6 PM to check for last-minute availability (often around 9 PM), but it’s not guaranteed. Also, meals are restricted to one appetizer, one main course, and one dessert per person. Rooms are decent if you book a deluxe option, though they could definitely use some renovations. The resort grounds are well-maintained, and most of the staff are friendly, though we did encounter a few less welcoming interactions. Food overall is average—definitely edible, but not a highlight of the stay. On the positive side, the spa and gym facilities are excellent. The Italian restaurant stood out with great service, especially from Alejandra and Lucas. Overall: A decent budget-friendly resort with some trade-offs, especially in dining and beach quality."

"Chez Waffle has a pretty back lounge area with view of the water and fish swimming into the inlet. The condition of the rooms is a bit dated. The prices of food on the high side. It is extremely quiet in this gated community. If you want lots to do, you are isolated. I did diviving and day trips every day, so spend little time at the hotel (only evenings). The local busses that run between Playa an d Tulum are excellent. Very cheap! Overall, enjoyed my stay and would do this again. I recommend it."
