"A lot of noise from people walking in and out, and kids screaming early in the morning. That’s not the hotel’s fault. But some sound isolation would be nice. The room was nice enough, nothing extra there. Bathroom door didn’t close properly. Bed was okay, but not the best. "

"The first problem was that we only had bath towels in the room and no others, but when we asked they brought them up. Then when we opened the sheets to get into bed, one side of the bed was dirty. The food in the restaurant was very good and they offered ice water anytime you wanted it. It was a great hotel to use for getting onto a cruise."

"Got upgraded to a lovely studio room. Room was quiet, had excellent facilities in the room such as a kitchenette, table with games and a view over the park. There was also good amenities such as a gym. The staff were also very helpful and friendly. The only criticism is that they need to be clearer about parking as didn't realise this needed to be booked in advance. It was all booked out and I needed to reserve another space elsewhere with justpark."

"Leonardo at Charlotte place was an excellent choice pre cruise. Ideally located. The staff at reception were great at our check in and were extremely helpful with our luggage storage at check out and on departure to the cruise port. This will be our hotel of choice when cruising from Southampton in the future"

"Older building, no elevator. Clean room, fresh air, right price. We had a cruise the next morning, was a wonderful night stay and dinner was fantastic. Breakfast was top quality also. Chris"

"The rooms are now really tired and neglected and not worth the £170 price per night, compared to other local hotels ive stayed in. The downstairs communal areas are good, despite the greedy £10 per wineglass, as are the staff. Its the bedrooms- woodchip walls, broken botched multiple wood/paint surfaces, mouldy bathroom and bare carpets-that need a complete renovation. Upstairs communal carpet is like something from The Shining movie. Not recommended."

"For the $91 per night price, this was very good value. Indeed, the property is a mere 5 minutes from the port and train station, which is great. Also, there are good restaurants within a 15 to 20 minute walk. There is a decent full kitchen, although there appeared to be no way to make ice. Be aware that there are no en suite bathrooms, but the bathroom was always available to us, since the property was only about half full. "What a charming boutique property. Just perfect for a pre cruise stay. The staff is amazing as well as the breakfast and dinner. The location is excellent for walking. Would highly recommend a stay at the White Star Tavern & Hotel."

"Upon entering, the room smelt strongly of mould and damp. There was mould all over the bedroom window and the smell also came from the bathroom. The bathroom door latch didn't work, so the door didn't stay closed. The bathroom extractor fan is caked with dust, the bath looks like it hadn't been cleaned, the panel looks incomplete and the grouting is mouldy in the shower. "The room was spacious and clean although there was a noticeable chip out of the wardrobe beading. The HarBar6th could have been cleaner a lot of crumbs trapped between the tile top and glass. Lunch in the Jetty restaurant was good, but the table was not cleared at the completion of dessert course and no tea or coffee offered. Somewhat disappointing for a 5 star hotel."
