Where to stay in Tulum

Zona Hotelera
Tulum's Zona Hotelera dazzles with pristine Caribbean beaches where turquoise waters meet powdery white sand. This trendy coastal strip features luxury eco-resorts that blend naturally with swaying palm groves and jungle vegetation. Exclusive beach clubs offer infinity pools overlooking vibrant coral reefs perfect for snorkelling adventures. The area specialises in upscale experiences with sophisticated beachfront restaurants serving fresh seafood and Mexican fusion cuisine. Boutique shops showcase designer beachwear and authentic Mayan crafts. Visitors can easily explore the coastline via bike paths connecting resorts or take short trips to nearby ancient ruins.

Zama
Zama brings the luxury of pristine white-sand beaches together with exclusive eco-conscious living. This upscale coastal area of Tulum features boutique hotels with thatched roofs and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame turquoise Caribbean waters. Wooden walkways wind through lush jungle connecting private cenotes and beachfront yoga pavilions. The car-free environment preserves Zama's tranquil atmosphere where wellness is a priority. Visitors can explore Tulum National Park or enjoy sophisticated beach clubs with craft cocktails and fire shows. Despite the luxury focus, the morning calls of howler monkeys remind you that nature remains the true host here.

La Veleta
La Veleta offers a quieter side of Tulum where residential streets reveal hidden treasures. Wellness centers with thatched roofs, artisanal coffee shops, and yoga studios nestle among tropical gardens. Local markets bring the community together in area plazas. Budget-friendly and authentic, this emerging area balances Mexican traditions with eco-conscious living. Bicycles are the preferred way to navigate the tree-lined streets. Though beaches require a short ride, the genuine local atmosphere and significantly lower prices make La Veleta perfect for travellers seeking Tulum's spirit without the crowds.

Tulum City Center
Tulum City Centre brings authentic Mexican culture to life around its vibrant central plaza. Colonial-style buildings house family-run taquerias and artisan workshops selling handcrafted souvenirs. Colourful murals depicting Mayan history adorn weathered walls while the aroma of fresh tortillas fills the air. This budget-friendly area offers a genuine local experience away from beach zone crowds. Family-run cocinas serve traditional Yucatecan specialities for a fraction of tourist prices. Colectivos provide easy access to nearby ruins and beaches when you're ready to explore further.

Villas Tulum
Escape to Villas Tulum, where luxury meets Caribbean beauty along Tulum's pristine shoreline. White sand beaches border exclusive eco-conscious properties designed for relaxation and connection with nature. This pedestrian-friendly paradise offers the perfect balance between indulgence and environmental harmony. Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa - All Inclusive
"This property is centrally located in Tulum so if you’re planning any excursions everything is only 10-15 minutes away. The property itself was under renovation during our visit so there were rolling closures in restaurants and main building. A little annoying but we managed. Glad to see there were renovating as it was in dire need. It’s a dated property but looking past that the staff helped make it great. The live music and shows in the evening were also above average. We spent most of our time on the beach but unfortunately the sea grass was so abundant it made swimming or simply enjoying the sight of the water troubling. The “eco-friendly “ hotels have not figured this out yet and is not limited to this hotel. Special shout out to the VIP concierge team specifically, Gaysler, Reyes, Laura, Daniel and Luisa. Also a shout out to the head chef Efraim who prepared several special meals for us. This team went well above and beyond during an otherwise average stay making it great."
